About the Warm-Up Questions

The warm-up questions are designed to help you assess your readiness for the more complex, scenario-based practice questions that follow. Each warm-up question targets a key skill or concept aligned with the ATD Talent Development Capability Model and reflects common application areas that appear on the CPTD exam.

Best Practice

To maximize your success, it is recommended that you master at least 80% of the warm-up questions (4 out of 5 correct) before advancing to the practice questions. Doing so ensures that you have a solid foundation and are prepared to apply your knowledge in more dynamic and nuanced contexts.

These questions are not just a quiz—they're a checkpoint. Treat them as an opportunity to identify gaps, reinforce strengths, and build confidence before tackling the major performance-based assessments.

About Case Management Questions

Case Management questions are scored based on a points system where correct answers within each step of a scenario earn points, and incorrect or unselected correct answers in a step result in point deductions. You must select at least one action to advance and move to the next step, and you cannot return to the previous step to change your answers.

About the Creator

I'm Sandra Smith, CPTD—Certified Professional in Talent Development, an experienced assessment content specialist, and a graduate of Harvard University with a Master’s in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Like many of you, I’ve balanced the demands of a full-time role, personal commitments, and the rigorous journey to CPTD certification.
